acting director ssv dr paul chapman position: director cddv; acting director ssv e: [email protected] bio dr paul chapman is the acting director of the school of simulation and visualisation (ssv) where he has worked since 2009. the dds is a postgraduate research and commercial centre based in the digital media quarter in glasgow housing state of the art virtual reality, graphics and sound laboratories. previously paul was director of the hull immersive visualization centre and spent several years working as an offshore engineer in the oil, gas and diamond mining industries. paul holds bsc, msc and phd degrees in computer science, he is a chartered engineer, chartered it professional and a fellow of the british computer society. passionate about technology, paul applies his experience to real-world problems in numerous disciplines. he has several years of managerial and project management experience and has won numerous awards including the 2009 uk industry awards: it innovative project of the year. paul is a director of the centre for digital documentation and visualisation and has been involved with the scottish ten since its inception. specialties: general and project management. computer graphics, virtual reality, internet technologies, user interfaces. specialist areas: medical, offshore engineering and heritage. alastair rawlinson head of innovation and learning alastair rawlinson position: head of innovation and learning t: 01786 234 826 e: [email protected] bio alastair rawlinson is head of digital innovation and learning with historic environment scotland, based at the engine shed. he has extensive experience in heritage digital documentation and visualisation, and specialises in the management and delivery of large scale, complex digital documentation projects. alastair is a product designer, with a b.sc. (hons) from glasgow caledonian university. he has worked in the 3d visualisation sector since graduation and joined the glasgow school of art in 2006, where he embarked on the digital documentation of an entire city to create the ‘urban model of glasgow’, before leading on the scottish ten project for gsa and co-managing the visualisation team. he joined historic environment scotland in 2017 and is responsible for the strategic development and implementation of technical digital resources to promote and educate audiences on the conservation of the historic environment, and to advance its digital accessibility. he is passionate about 3d technologies and the practical applications of 3d data for the benefit of historic and industrial sites. james hepher rae project senior digital documentation officer james hepher position: rae project senior digital documentation officer t: 01786 234 812 e: [email protected] bio surveyor and archaeologist james hepher worked for the rcahms for seven years before joining the hes digital documentation team in june 2010 to begin work on the scottish ten project. during his career, james has worked with the national trust for scotland, the forestry commission, national museums of scotland and the ministry of defence estate on a wide range of built heritage and archaeological projects. he has documented everything from bronze age burials to second world war bunkers. he plans and undertakes 3d surveys that form part of the rae project – documenting hes’ 345 properties in care, objects and artefacts in 3d. he
